The history of Northeast Welders
Supply/Northeast Gas Technologies goes back approximately 50 years, when
it was founded as Broadway Welding Supply. Located in Albany, New York,
Broadway Welding Supply was a distributor of Airco Gases, equipment, and
supplies, and serviced a variety of industrial customers.
In 1976, Donald Baker purchased Broadway
Welding Supply, and moved it into a building near the Albany Airport.
Continuing to service a growing industrial clientele, Don began to expand
the scope of the business into the medical, scientific, and food service
markets. In 1982, the company moved into a new facility located on
Broadway, in Menands, just north of the city of Albany. As the business
was also growing geographically, the name of the company was changed to
Northeast Welders Supply, reflecting a more regional identity. During the
1990's, Northeast experienced steady growth.
Rusty Baker, Don’s son, took over the
business in 1996. Rusty’s years of experience working in the company since
high school age really paid off. His combination of experience and
business savvy has helped him lead the company in new directions. While
industrial and manufacturing accounts remain at the heart of our customer
base, Northeast has become one of the area's largest suppliers of medical
and specialty gas products. Over the past 8 years, we have sustained a
growth of 8 to 12% in sales per year.
In 2000 Northeast Welders Supply
formally changed our name to Northeast Gas Technologies Ltd. to
compliment our big investment we were about to make to be in the "gas
business".
Thanks to the vision and determination
Rusty had for many years, we are proud to announce our brand new "state of
the art" cylinder fill plant, showroom, and corporate office was
completed in June 2001. We are now located at 84 Karner Rd in
Colonie.
The growth in our business made it
necessary for us to move to a larger facility. This new facility has given
us a better ability to service the ever changing Albany marketplace. We
feel we have made a strong commitment to our industry and look forward to
many more years of servicing all of our customer’s needs. Our ultimate
goal is to provide quality, professional and courteous service along with
timely deliveries.
In November 2002,
Northeast Gas Technologies opened a location in Rutland,
Vermont.
This location has a store front and also makes deliveries to many cities
in Vermont.
In December 2003, Northeast Gas Technologies
acquired Progas out of Vestal
NY. Along with the purchase of the Vestal location, came a location
in Ithaca, NY and many more sub-dealer locations.
In July 2007, Northeast
Gas Technologies purchased Nichols Oxygen Service in Hyde
Park, NY. Since the acquisition, Northeast Gas has opened a
fully stocked retail store at our Hyde Park Location, and delivers to many
areas in the Hudson Valley region from there.
